Buddies for refugees

Everything is new for a refugee in Amsterdam. The social culture is different, the language is strange. That is fascinating, but can also make you feel lost. In addition, some refugees suffer from trauma or other psychological problems. That makes a fresh start extra difficult.

Welcome to the Netherlands

As a buddy of a refugee you support someone in getting to know our country, the city of Amsterdam and our language. Ultimately, you are supposed to make the new inhabitant feel welcome. You break through the loneliness and the displaced feeling.

This is how it works

You help a refugee to practice Dutch language, you support with practical matters such as mail and administration and you offer a listening ear. Of course you will also do fun things and discover Amsterdam! Coffee with a stroopwafel, to the bulbs, skating together or go to the Albert Cuyp market. You are also there for fun!

Become a volunteer

Do you have once a week or once every two weeks? Are you curious about cultural differences? Then become a volunteer. Educational for the refugee, but also fascinating and insightful for yourself. Click the button below and sign up.

Need a buddy?

What you are going to do with the buddy or how your buddy can help you, you decide together. In any case, you will learn more about the Dutch and how they think and behave. You also practice Dutch language and get to know new people. You see your buddy at least once every two weeks. You do that for six months to a year. We are looking for a volunteer who suits you. And you can keep contacting us with questions or complaints.
