Dennis has been related to the Rainbow Group for ten years. He has had four different buddies who have all been very special to him in a very different way. For some time now, Esther has been his buddy: “thanks to my buddy I leave the house more often and undertake more activities. Together with Esther I do loads of things; we go to the cinema, drink coffee somewhere, do the groceries together or eat pancakes in the park. We cross the whole town in my invalid’s vehicle. We have a lot of fun together. I can talk to Esther about anything that is on my mind. She really empathizes and gives me good advice. I am quite explosive and she is more diplomatic. We really complement each other.”
Buddy Care for addicts
Due to their addictive personalities our participants have faced countless problems in their lives. Their lives have usually been dictated by questions such as: how do I get money? Where can I get my next hit? Where should I sleep tonight? How will I eat? Where shall I shower? This intense lifestyle has frequently led to very limited social contacts among our participants. A lot of them are very lonely, and long for a buddy. Will you help?
As a volunteer you will contribute concretely and significantly to society through the support of a fellow citizen who has lost everything. You will meet up with someone (bi)weekly, during which you can go to a café, wonder around or watch a movie. You support someone, while learning all about a different world.
