Blaka Watra (Walk-In Centre and clothes collection point)

Walk-In Centre and userroom Blaka Watra is only a few hundred metres from Amsterdam Central Station, on the bottom floor of De Regenboog Groep’s head office. People from Suriname and the Antilles are the main visitors, but there are many guests from other cultures at this walk-in centre. Visitors can come here for a solid meal, cooked by chefs who are visitors here too. The meals are very appealing to the visitors while the interior, designed to produce the ambiance of a Caribbean party, features plenty of murals and other works of art made by our visitors. The visitors are very independent, although obviously they are supervised by volunteers and professional community-care workers. Activation is limited by what 'Blaka Watra' can manage: cargo-bike transport, road-sweeping teams and the Rainbow Soul Club art project. Many of the visitors end up helping out too, by supervising or giving a hand to clean the walk-in centre.

What can you do?

We need your help, become a volunteer! You can help by investing your time and energy, by working with citizens of Amsterdam with unusual stories. Or become a donor! Your money will be well spent on care for homeless people, aid for (former) addicts and people living in poverty or social isolation. You are always welcome to drop by and see how your money is spent. Or why not buy one of the products from our online Gift Shop? A present for someone you know, perhaps. It's all contributing towards a better society. And that's great, isn't it?
