Dier&Vriend
Pets can be very important to people who don't feel safe or seen in society anyway. Dier&Vriend ensures that pets do not end up on the streets when their owners are temporarily unable to care for them. For example, when an owner ends up in a shelter for the homeless, ends up in a (rehab or mental health) clinic or finds shelter somewhere where the pet is not welcome.
Shelter animals of vulnerable owners
Dier&Vriend is (after a short hiatus) fortunately able to take care of pets again in Amsterdam and its immediate surroundings. We do this in the homes of our enthusiastic and experienced volunteers. Very vulnerable owners who need temporary shelter or are homeless and have nowhere to take their pet can apply for shelter.
Animal-accessible Shelter
De Regenboog Groep, in cooperation with HVO Querido, has made MO/BW locations (Maatschappelijke Opvang en Beschermd Wonen) in Amsterdam accessible to pets. Clients can therefore also visit if they have a pet.
.We now notice even more how important pets are for the target groups. That is why we support other shelters in drawing up animal-inclusive policies. We do this based on our own experience and using toolkits for animal-inclusive policies that we have created. All shelters in the Netherlands with questions can email or call Nerissa ten Velthuis (020- 53 17 600)
