#1 WE’VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 42 YEARS. SO WE KNOW WHAT WE’RE DOING
So what do we do? Well, just ask your mom and dad. De Regenboog Groep was already around back when hippies from all over the world had chosen Vondelpark as their place to sleep. Only some of them never woke up again due to an overdose. Reverend Douwe Wouters took care of Amsterdam’s first “junkies” and founded De Regenboog in 1975. Since then, we’ve continued to care for the people of Amsterdam.
#2 WE ARE TRUE AMSTERDAMMERS. AND WE’RE HERE FOR ALL AMSTERDAMMERS
De Regenboog Groep makes the invisible Amsterdam visible. We know what’s going on behind the front doors of lonely Amsterdammers. We also know, for example, all of Amsterdam’s homeless people by name. If we don’t know them, we introduce ourselves and invite them to visit one of our eight walk-in centres, located throughout the city. There, a warm meal, a shower, and a listening ear await them.
#3 THANKS TO MORE THAN 1,000 WELL-TRAINED VOLUNTEERS, WE’RE MAKING AMSTERDAM AN EVEN BETTER PLACE FOR EVERYONE
Today, we have more than a thousand volunteers at the Volunteer Academy, specifically trained volunteers who ensure that people in Amsterdam who are falling through the cracks receive support, help, and attention. #4 WE SPECIALIZE IN PEOPLE FACING MULTIPLE CHALLENGES
Is “normal” really the norm? For De Regenboog Groep, “normal” is a very flexible concept. Everyone faces challenges in life that they struggle with. Some people find it harder to overcome them on their own; others got off to a rough start; and still others, for whatever reason, keep stumbling over the same obstacle—whether throughout their lives or a combination of these factors. For us, this doesn’t matter. Because whether you’re living on the street, never leave the house, or are deeply in debt at home: De Regenboog offers people opportunities.
