Many people are wondering what the future holds for Villa Westerweide. That’s why we’d like to share an update on the current situation and the steps being taken to preserve this place.
At Villa Westerweide, our walk-in centre in Zaanstad, people who are homeless or without a permanent home, as well as other vulnerable residents, find a safe place to catch their breath. They can come there for a hot meal, a shower, rest, social support, and guidance toward appropriate care. At the end of May, the municipality announced that Villa Westerweide may have to close by the end of 2026.
Closure of Villa Westerweide
At this time, closure by the end of this year seems likely, but the final decision has not yet been made. We are in discussions with the municipal government and hope that policymakers will choose to allocate the necessary funds so that this place can continue to exist. A final decision on this matter will be made after the summer.
Support for the Walk-in Centre
It is heartwarming to see how many people, volunteers, and organizations are committed to preserving the Villa Westerweide Walk-in Centre. Over the past three years, we’ve seen just how valuable this special place is to so many people. We therefore sincerely hope that all this support will help ensure a future in which Villa Westerweide can continue to exist.
For now, we are awaiting the final decision. We will keep you informed.
