Buddy in trauma
Traumatized newcomers, victims of human trafficking or domestic violence are more likely to become socially isolated.
People with trauma are more likely to feel lonely or insecure. Some do not yet speak the Dutch language well or do not yet know their way around their new place of residence. At De Regenboog, someone gets some distraction, with the help and support of a volunteer. In this way, traumatized people gradually find more confidence in themselves and others.
Together
The Regenboog puts people with trauma in contact with a volunteer. If there is a click, they continue together. The volunteer offers sociability and distraction and sometimes help with practical matters, such as setting up an administration or accompaniment to appointments with institutions. In addition, the participants practice the Dutch language. Sometimes the volunteer helps to find voluntary work, an education or a course.
As a volunteer you never take on the role of social worker. You are in close contact with your volunteer coordinator at De Regenboog. And you where your role ends and that of assistance begins. The goal is always to make people more self-reliant, so as a buddy you don't take over things.
Become a volunteer
We are looking for stable women who can stand beside someone and have a lot of patience. You provide distraction for your buddy and help build her self-confidence and self-reliance. You meet on a regular basis, offer a listening ear and sometimes practical support (e.g. administrative, organizational or social). Something for you? Sign up using the button below.
