Several well-known Amsterdammers were photographed in their underwear at one of our walk-in centres. To draw attention to homelessness and thus the lack not only of a home, but also of underpants and socks for homeless people.

UNDERPANTS AND SOCKS LEAST DONATED
In addition to eating healthy food, having a cup of coffee, resting and talking to social work, our walk-in centres allow homeless people to take hot showers and exchange their dirty clothes for clean ones. As a battered person, this gives back dignity. Especially if you have to get back on the streets afterwards. Only now there are almost no underpants and socks among all the kind clothing donations, so there is an acute shortage of them.
Olympic swimming champion Femke Heemskerk: "When I heard it, it was really an eye-opener for me. Clothes yes, but underwear? I had never thought about that before."

MANY TENS OF THOUSANDS NEEDED
Our eleven walk-in centers receive between five and six thousand unique visitors each year, including many outdoor sleepers. Do the math: five to six thousand visitors multiplied by several pairs of underpants and pairs of socks per person. Then you end up with many tens of thousands on an annual basis. And with such a heavy street life, the wear and tear on these kinds of items is naturally greater.
Artist and fashion designer Bas Kosters: "Something small that is so ordinary to us makes such a big difference. It's important that we dwell on and contribute to something that is so fundamentally important and gives dignity."

Naturally, you can also just donate underpants and socks. Please only gents and unisex. And because of hygiene only new underpants and socks. Please bring these to our walk-in centres. Go below to Locations and select Walk-in Centre, House of the Quarter, ... Then you immediately see where they are located. For the opening hours: just click on the relevant location.

OTHER STUFF ALSO WELCOME?
If you come to bring underpants or socks AND happen to have other good quality men's clothing left over, we'd love to get those too. Winter coats are especially needed. Items may have been used, as long as they look good (no holes or stains, working zippers, etc.). Underpants and socks only new so!
