In Amsterdam, many people struggle with addiction. Sometimes to alcohol or drugs. Sometimes to prescription medications, gambling, or video games. Or a combination of these. Such an addiction can slowly take over a person’s life—interacting with others becomes more difficult, their social circle shrinks, and the barrier to taking action gets higher and higher.
And it can happen to anyone. Whether you’re young or older, have a practical or theoretical education, are a man, a woman, or something else—addiction doesn’t fit into any boxes.
What are you going to do?
As a volunteer with De Regenboog Groep, you’ll be paired with someone struggling with addiction. You won’t be a social worker, but rather a buddy—someone who meets up for a cup of coffee, a walk, a game, or to cook together. Just person to person.
“Just doing something that has nothing to do with my addiction—that’s worth its weight in gold.”
