Do you love fashion, textiles, sewing, knitting, or giving clothes a second life? And do you enjoy bringing people together just as much?

De Regenboog Groep is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who would like to regularly organize a creative fashion workshop at Savoy, a shelter for Ukrainians in Amsterdam.

About De Regenboog Groep and Savoy

De Regenboog Groep is committed to an Amsterdam where no one has to face life alone. Through services such as shelters, walk-in centres, social support, and volunteer initiatives, we help people participate in society, build connections, and regain their independence.

Savoy is one of De Regenboog Groep’s facilities where Ukrainians who were forced to flee their country due to the war are staying. It was the first Ukrainian shelter to open its doors in Amsterdam. Just a few days after the outbreak of full-scale war in February 2022, the first residents were welcomed here.

Currently, about 80 people live at Savoy: singles, families, single parents, young people, and seniors. It’s a diverse little community with different backgrounds, experiences, and talents.

And there’s a lot of creativity under one roof.

Several residents have a talent for and interest in fashion and textiles. Some knit, others sew, repair, or alter clothing, and still others simply enjoy being creative with their hands. What’s still missing is someone who can bring these people, talents, and ideas together.

What are you going to do?

You’ll devise and organize creative activities centered on fashion and textiles. This isn’t primarily a teaching role, so you won’t need to prepare a course or teach everyone the same technique.

Your main responsibility is to provide a pleasant space where residents can engage in creative activities together, exchange ideas, and learn from one another. For example:

  • Upcycling or customizing clothing;

  • Sewing, knitting, or working with different fabrics;

  • Repairing or altering clothing together;

  • Coming up with and carrying out a collaborative creative project;

  • Or any other creative idea that you or the residents come up with yourselves.

The creative process is important, but ultimately it’s all about bringing people together. By creating something together, new connections are formed, residents can share their talents, and we strengthen the community within Savoy.

Who are we looking for?

  • You’re interested in fashion, textiles, crafts, sewing, knitting, or upcycling;

  • You’re creative and enjoy coming up with new activities and projects;

  • You enjoy working with people of different ages and backgrounds;

  • You like to take the initiative, but also give residents the space to contribute their own ideas and talents;

  • You are open-minded, enthusiastic, and believe it’s important to bring people together;

  • Do you speak Ukrainian or Russian? That’s a plus, but certainly not a requirement.

What do you get from us?

  • You’ll have the freedom to contribute your own creative ideas;

  • You’ll receive guidance from De Regenboog Groep;

  • Opportunity to take free training courses through the Volunteer Academy;

  • Reimbursement for expenses;

  • And above all: a special place where you can use your creativity to bring people together.

Where and when?

The workshops take place at Savoy, a shelter for Ukrainians in Amsterdam.

We’re looking for someone who’d like to organize workshops on a regular basis. We’d be happy to work with you to determine how often and at what times.

Would you like to create something wonderful together with the residents of Savoy? Sign up. We’d love to meet you!
