Become a language buddy for a non-Dutch-speaking woman in Amsterdam
Many women in Amsterdam need a language buddy. They’d like to learn Dutch, but their vulnerable situations require extra support.
As a language buddy, you’ll help a woman who speaks another language expand her horizons. One-on-one, in a place where she feels safe—at her home, or together outside in the park, at the market, or at the library. You’ll practice a conversation at the doctor’s office, read a book together, or help her prepare for the integration exam. With your help, she’ll learn the language and build her self-confidence.
What are you going to do?
- You meet with your language buddy once a week
- You practice Dutch in an informal, practical way
- You help broaden her horizons and expand her opportunities
- You encourage social interaction, independence, and participation in society
Who are we looking for?
- You are a woman
- You speak Dutch fluently
- You don’t have to be a teacher—motivation and patience are enough
- You live in Amsterdam and are available on a weekly basis
What do you get from us?
- Basic training to prepare you
- Support from a dedicated coordinator
- Access to teaching materials
- Reimbursement of expenses (e.g., for coffee during an outdoor class)
