We would like to organize an accessible Dutch Language Café for refugees from Ukraine at our shelter. It won’t be a classroom or a structured program, but a welcoming place where residents can drop in for a cup of coffee or tea, meet other residents, and practice Dutch in a fun way.
We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy acting as hosts to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. You don’t need to be a Dutch language teacher.
What are you going to do?
Together with other volunteers, you’ll organize a fun evening where residents can practice Dutch in a relaxed and accessible setting. For example:
- Serving coffee and tea and welcoming residents
- Playing language games together or watching a Dutch TV series or the Jeugdjournaal and discussing it
- Practice conversations about everyday topics, such as grocery shopping, work, or a visit to the doctor
- Occasionally organize a movie night, game night, karaoke, or cooking activity with the same group
Who are we looking for?
- You don’t need to be a Dutch language teacher. The most important thing is that you’re good at connecting with people and putting residents at ease.
- You’re enthusiastic, sociable, and interested in other cultures.
- You enjoy helping residents practice Dutch and create a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.
- You’re independent, take initiative, and enjoy coming up with creative activities, such as a game, a short video, or a fun exercise.
What do you get from us?
- You’ll be part of a dedicated and friendly group of volunteers
- You’ll receive guidance from De Regenboog Groep
- Opportunity to take free training courses through the Volunteer Academy
- Reimbursement for expenses
Where and when?
It would be great if you could be available once a week for the language class. The class lasts about 1.5 hours. We’ll coordinate the day and time together.
Location: Tosaristraat 30A (Java Island, East)
