At our Botel refugee shelter, we want to start a new Language Café for people who are just beginning to learn Dutch. That’s why we’re looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who enjoys practicing, talking, and exploring together with the participants.
What are you going to do?
You’ll lead a weekly Language Café session lasting about 1.5 hours. The participants are refugees from Ukraine who are eager to learn Dutch. This isn’t a traditional classroom lesson: we don’t cover grammar in depth, but focus mainly on practicing in a practical and friendly way. Think of conversations about everyday topics and situations, learning new words, and speaking Dutch together.
There’s a lot of interest in the Language Café. We might even be able to start two groups. You’ll help us get the first group up and running.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who:
- enjoys working with people and connecting with them;
- is patient and enthusiastic;
- enjoys practicing Dutch in a casual setting;
- can lead a group independently.
You don’t have to be a Dutch teacher. Teaching experience is nice to have, but certainly not required. A little English can be helpful. Do you speak Ukrainian or Russian? That’s a plus, but not a requirement. Participants can also help each other with translation.
What do you get from us?
- You'll be part of a dedicated and friendly group of volunteers.
- You'll receive guidance from De Regenboog Groep
- Opportunity to take free training courses through the Volunteer Academy
- Expense reimbursement
