In a city like Amsterdam, where everything always seems to be buzzing, more and more people are living with silent worries. Prices are skyrocketing, and one in five single parents now lives in poverty. For many Amsterdammers, it’s hard to make ends meet—and as a result, letters pile up, bills go unpaid, and stress levels rise.

You can make a difference.

You don’t have to be an accountant. You don’t have to be a healthcare provider. What we are looking for is someone who says, “Come on, let’s just figure this out together.”

What are you going to do?

  • Opening the mail together, organizing papers, creating a folder
  • Figuring out which bills are still outstanding
  • Offering support during a potential debt counseling process
  • Helping with applying for a benefit
  • Helping someone regain control, one small step at a time
  • Sometimes calling an agency together to clarify things
  • And above all: providing clarity and peace of mind

Support during a debt counseling process is practical: listing the debts and, if necessary, requesting outstanding amounts from agencies. Due to high stress levels, this sometimes becomes impossible (where do you even start?), and that’s when it’s incredibly valuable to work through this calmly together.

Who are we looking for?

  • Someone who is available a few hours a week
  • A practical mindset and an open attitude
  • You are 21 years of age or older
  • Patience, a sense of humor, and the confidence that things will work out

What do you get from us?

  • Professional guidance from experienced colleagues
  • Training courses through the Volunteer Academy (completely free)
  • Reimbursement for expenses
  • And perhaps most importantly: you’ll truly make a difference for someone in your city
