For the “Art at the Table” project, De Regenboog Groep and KokenVerbindt are looking for two dedicated volunteers to help create a warm and safe atmosphere on Thursday evenings.
What is “Art at the Table”?
Every Thursday evening, Het Veem is transformed into a special gathering place. About forty people come together and engage in conversation inspired by an artist’s work. We eat together and discuss specific themes in the artwork with the artist. A diverse group of people attends, but many are those who experience loneliness, have mental health challenges, or are (or have been) homeless.
Topics such as loneliness, stigma, addiction, and personal experiences with mental health care—as well as trust, hope, and a sense of recognition—may be discussed. Artists, people with lived experience, and healthcare professionals also join us. This allows us to discuss themes that we all face as human beings throughout our lives.
What are you going to do?
As a volunteer, your role is primarily one of hospitality and support. You will:
- welcome participants and put them at ease;
- make contact in an approachable way;
- ensure that people feel seen and heard;
- monitor the atmosphere at the table;
- give participants the space to share something, ask questions, or simply listen;
- help ensure the evening runs smoothly and peacefully.
Who are we looking for?
You have a good sense of what people need. You enjoy talking with a variety of people and like to help create a warm and open atmosphere. You don’t need to be a social worker. Experience working with people with mental health challenges or a background in mental health care is a plus, but not required. An open attitude, a calm demeanor, and genuine attention are what matter most.

We’re looking for three volunteers who are each available 2–4 times a month. This way, we ensure that there are always two volunteers present, and participants always see two out of three familiar faces. Having consistent support can make it easier for people to keep coming back!
