Frank (51): "I thought I was a dog person, but I have become quite attached to Dushi."
"I started working with De Regenboog Groep's Dier&Vriend project last year. I am an animal lover. So when an emergency chihuahua needed to be taken care of for two weeks I did that and it was incredibly fun."
Sweetheart
.In December there was a different situation: the owner of cat Dushi (which means "cutie" in Antillean) had been thrown out on the street by her ex-husband. She was able to stay somewhere, but no pets were welcome there. She also had a kitten, which could stay with a neighbor friend, but he couldn't have Dushi there too. So I picked Dushi up just before Christmas. The fact that I am taking her in is probably for a longer period, because a new, affordable home is not easy to find at the moment. Dushi's owner has said that if no one could take care of the kitty, she would live with her in her car. That's how much Dushi means to her. Now that she no longer has to worry about caring for Dushi, she has a little more peace of mind, at least she can go to a hostel for a while.
The pet first
.I was quite excited myself: I'm really much more of a dog person, I thought. But I must say that after those few months I have become very attached to Dushi. I find it very cozy. It is also nice that it helps her owner. For many people, not wanting to say goodbye to their pet greatly limits their choices and options. The pet comes first, and only when it is certain that it is in good hands, is it their turn."
