Help for EU citizens

Geplaatst op 3 February 2025

Since the 1980s, AMOC has been taking in Southern European citizens who had run into problems in Amsterdam. Because this vulnerable group grew enormously in later years, the pressure on this drop-in facility continued to increase. This caused a lot of nuisance in the neighborhood. This is a thing of the past since AMOC West opened in 2023 in the former juvenile correctional facility on the Transformatorweg in Amsterdam-West.

By good fortune, quite a few EU residents seek work in another part of Europe. A number end up in the Netherlands, which is often Amsterdam. They usually find a harsh reality here: no work, no pay, no shelter. Extra difficult is that many speak only their native language. From this combination not infrequently follows a downward spiral, with all the psychological and other problems that come with it. (Eastern) Europeans who get into trouble may reside in the Netherlands, but are usually not entitled to benefits, housing or care in the Netherlands. AMOC West focuses on this group. Intensive guidance is provided, focusing on recovery or return to the country of origin.

The fieldwork team Dobre020 is on the road especially for this target group. They take to the streets to actively approach people. The team speaks to them in their own language and points out our assistance possibilities.
