BIG HELP, TASTY EATING
Catering company Kluts! helps people with a distance to employment get back on track. Through participation with empathy and support. Meanwhile, at Kluts! famous throughout Amsterdam, dishes are prepared: ccontinuously, professionally and in high numbers. How does that work?
"It's great to be working here," says Annemarie. "My brief history is that I had burnout, and important with that is that you really take the time to heal. So I really do keep an eye on my so-called taxability. But as of this week, I'm working an extra day, and it's going well. That's such a nice feeling." Radja, working in the kitchen, walks by with full plates of delicious-smelling curry. He hears what Annemarie says and agrees, smiling. "Such nice people here too," he says. A little later, he tells her that his head has been bothering him and he has to be careful, but is feeling stronger and stronger. "I'm just working," he continues, "and that's so good."
Grow your way at Kluts!
To express the atmosphere at Kluts! in Amsterdam-Zuid in menu card terminology: homely coziness on a bed of solid organization, structure and cooperation. And with a clear goal: to make people's lives better. "What I find important is that in a work company like this, people grow within the possibility of what they can handle," says pathway supervisor Mileen Doets. "The Work and Activation department of De Regenboog Groep offers you the chance to step by step get a better grip on your day, meet new people and use your talents towards work. Kluts! is a prime example of this."
"What I find important in this is that everyone in the kitchen is equal and every positive contribution is immediately appreciated," adds Claartje Lindhout. She is a work supervisor at Kluts! two days a week and also runs her own business. "Above all, people need to feel good," she continues. "Expectations that are doable, that's what it's all about."
Finding strength in work
Some things have tightened up quite a bit since Claartje started working at Kluts! just under a year ago. "I worked in restaurants for twenty years," she says, "and you take that into this counseling work as well. The people who come here often have a backpack and sometimes a homeless past, but find a lot of strength in doing the work as well as they can. Of course, I started here to make some social contribution and we don't do rock-hard kitchen hierarchy here, but if you're assigned somewhere, it's also very much appreciated if you're there and do what you can."

Affordable quality
.It's an open door, of course, but ultimately a catering company stands or falls on the quality of the food. And given the developments, Mileen says that too is going in quite the right direction. Kluts! is receiving more and more requests, both from De Regenboog Groep locations and from external parties. Sustainable favorites like the pumpkin soup with herb croutons, the vegetarian quiches and the dishes with homemade pesto find their way to a long list of buyers every day. "Of course it's all very affordable," says Mileen, "it's also not directly about a profit motive, but in the meantime, it's putting together better and better business." "And," Claartje continues, "of that, a nice outing can be realized one day. So you contribute to that as a customer, while also just helping people who need it for a while in their stage of life." The next phase, Claartje says, is to quietly increase the number of employees and add even more organizations to the customer base. Radja is ready. "Kluts! is really good," he says, "we are making more food and more people should come to work. Kluts! is really a great help ...and good food."
