DIVERSE, INCLUSIVE AND EQUAL

At De Regenboog Groep, we are working to create an organization where everyone feels welcome and seen. The Diversity, Inclusion and Equality track contributes to this.

For De Regenboog Groep it is clear: we are not yet a good reflection of the city, especially in managerial positions. We also know that discrimination and exclusion occur in the workplace. We want and need to do something about that. Director Hans Wijnands explains, "Diversity is a given, inclusion is not. That is precisely why we must work on it every day. If we have an eye for differences, we can really make a difference."

Training and conversation

Leaders attend trainings on inclusive leadership, in which they learn to recognize and discuss their own (unconscious) prejudices. Teams discuss their experiences with exclusion and what is needed to create a safe working environment. In recruitment and selection, we are adapting our approach: vacancy texts are being written more inclusively and the selection process is being designed to be fairer, so that more diverse candidates feel addressed and have equal opportunities.

Inclusion

Also, the inclusion working group worked with an external specialist to create a questionnaire on inclusion. With this we map out how colleagues experience the work environment and where improvement is needed. We use the results to determine targeted actions. In addition, attention officers will be trained in dealing with discrimination and transgressive behavior, and an e-learning will be created for all colleagues. Hans: "Working on diversity, inclusion and equality is a prerequisite for fulfilling our mission, vision and values and for a safe, fair and inclusive work culture. This way we can continue to credibly contribute to a city where there is room for everyone."
