Parentshouse
A divorce or separation often brings a lot of worries, especially when children are involved. Finding suitable (temporary) housing where children can also stay isn’t easy. That’s why Parentshouse exists. We currently have five houses in Amsterdam: two in IJburg, two in Nieuw-West, and one in Zuid. There is also a Parentshouse run by De Regenboog Groep in Amstelveen. We are looking for locations in more districts, including Noord and Zuidoost.
What is it?
Parentshouse offers temporary housing to parents who are going through a divorce or considering it. The home is located near the children’s family home. This allows both parents to continue fulfilling their parenting responsibilities and maintain contact with their children. In addition, for up to one year, they are given the peace and space to sort out matters such as finding permanent housing.
Who is it for?
Parentshouse is intended for people who are going through a divorce and caring for children. It is for people who are economically homeless, are not eligible for shelter, and cannot make ends meet in today’s housing market. For more information about the eligibility requirements, please read on when you sign up (see below).
How does it work?
You’ll be sharing the home with two other people. You’ll rent a spacious room where you can also have your children stay over. The living room, kitchen, bathroom, and outdoor space are shared with two other divorced parents. They also have their children stay at the home. Rent at Parentshouse in Amsterdam and Amstelveen ranges from €750 to €850 (including municipal taxes, utilities, internet, and television). You’ll receive support in finding a long-term solution.
