For our new location, Circus Odesa in Beatrixpark, we’re looking for an enthusiastic and enterprising Hospitality Work Coach for 32 hours per week. You enjoy a dynamic workday, get energized by interacting with different people, and enjoy building something new together. In addition, you have an affinity with the Ukrainian community in Amsterdam or are part of it yourself, as Circus Odesa specifically offers a space for these new Amsterdammers.
What does the venue do?
Circus Odesa will be a vibrant gathering place in Beatrixpark—a place where Amsterdammers from Ukraine, local residents, park visitors, entrepreneurs, and other Amsterdammers can come together.
The venue combines daytime dining and drinks with event space rentals, cultural programming, and events. The restaurant features Ukrainian cuisine, and the central dining area is surrounded by social entrepreneurs who offer their products and services in the building’s alcoves. Circus Odesa’s programming is aimed at all of Amsterdam, featuring specific programming and activities for the city’s Ukrainian community as well as quintessentially Amsterdam or global art and culture.
Circus Odesa also offers work experience opportunities to Ukrainians and other Amsterdammers who face barriers to the job market. This makes it not only a hospitality venue but also a place where people can grow, gain work experience, and take steps toward greater independence and paid employment.
Since Circus Odesa is a new venue, not everything has been finalized yet. We’re therefore looking for someone who enjoys helping to build something from the ground up, contributing ideas, and working with colleagues to discover what works.
What are your responsibilities?
As a Hospitality Work Coach, you and your colleagues are responsible for ensuring that daily operations run smoothly. You’ll be visible on the work floor, provide excellent service to guests, and guide participants and volunteers during their work.
In doing so, you’ll pay close attention to guests, staff, and participants alike. You’ll maintain an overview, provide structure, and ensure that guests have everything they need. Serving is an important part of your job, but you’ll also help out in the kitchen when needed.
What will you be doing?
- You will be responsible for day-to-day operations and ensuring that the restaurant runs smoothly—from opening and preparing for service to closing the venue.
- You’ll actively assist with serving and pitch in in the kitchen as needed.
- You’ll mentor participants and volunteers on the job and help them become more independent, step by step.
- You take participants’ capacity into account and recognize when stress or time pressure becomes too much.
- You create a welcoming, safe, and pleasant atmosphere for guests, colleagues, volunteers, and participants.
- You’ll contribute ideas for the development of Circus Odesa and, together with your team, take responsibility for generating new ideas, developing concepts, and monitoring their implementation.
- You’ll work closely with your fellow Work Coaches, the Food and Beverage Manager, and the Operations Manager.
This job is a good fit for you if you
- Get energized by the hospitality industry, welcoming guests, and supporting people. Experience as a floor manager or in a coordinating hospitality role is a plus.
- Have extensive experience in the hospitality industry and enjoy actively working on the floor;
- Have an affinity with the Ukrainian community, with a strong preference for a candidate with a Ukrainian background
- Can maintain a clear overview, even when things get busy or hectic;
- Are well-organized and can work systematically;
- Easily connect with different people and possess strong communication skills;
- Have experience working with people with a mental health history and/or those who have been homeless;
- Are flexible, able to handle stress, and solution-oriented;
- Enjoy working with others and have a natural ability to motivate them;
- Are creative and enterprising and enjoy helping to shape a new location;
- Are willing to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends;
- Have a good command of Dutch and English. It is a plus if you also speak Russian or Ukrainian
We are looking for an enthusiastic and hospitable work coach with hospitality experience and a strong connection to the Ukrainian community in our city—someone who is confident, organized, and enjoys guiding and motivating people.

- In addition to 8.33% vacation pay, an end-of-year bonus of 8.33%
- Travel allowance and opportunities for professional development
- A one-year contract with the possibility of renewal or a permanent position.
